Introduction: Because of the associations and links between abnormal placental weight and both fetal and maternal disorders, it is important to have the national normal standard for placental weight as a normality reference.

Aims: To find out the national placental weight standards for babies born between 37th and 43rd weeks of gestation in all groups of males and females babies born AGA, SGA, and LGA.

Methods: This population-based analysis comprised of a 4-year cohort data (January 2016 to December 2019) for births conducted in all HMC hospitals (90% of all births in the country). The inclusion criterion for this analysis was term singleton live births, 37+0 to 42+6 weeks gestation. Furthermore, cases with missing placenta or placenta weight <100g or >2500g were excluded giving a final sample size of 80722 births.

Results: Infant and placental weight pairs were analyzed according to their gestational ages and growth categories (AGA, SGA, LGA). Mean placental weights continued to increase through 41 weeks' gestation in the SGA, AGA, and LGA groups and in both sexes and were heavier in boys. The mean placental weight at term was 682 +/- 96 g for boys and 673 +/- 94 g for girls.

Conclusions: Reference standards of our large national cohort were achieved. And demonstrated a consistent increase in placental size until 41 weeks of gestation with a mild but significant decrease in the 42nd week.
