Background: Compared to children without the disease, children with food allergy are stunted, which is positively correlated with the amount of food eliminated and the duration of the diet.
Objective: To compare the effect of an elimination diet on growth between children with cow milk allergy and those who are healthy as control subjects.
Subjects and Methods: This study was carried out on forty children with cow milk allergy attending and nutrition clinic in Alexandria University Children's Hospitals and compared to forty apparently healthy children of matched age and sex as a control group. Anthropometric measurements; including weight, height, BMI, head circumference were measured.
Results: the weight Z score, height Z score and body mass index Z score were significantly lower in children with cow milk allergy compared to control.
Conclusion: A careful follow-up of patients with cow milk allergy should include the monitoring of growth during long-term elimination diets.
