ESPE2024 Poster Category 3 Pituitary, Neuroendocrinology and Puberty (36 abstracts)
East and North Hertfordshire NHS Foundation Trust, Stevenage, United Kingdom
Background: There has been a secular increase in Precocious puberty in recent years. We have also seen an increase in referrals and confirmed cases of precocious puberty in our clinics. The suspected cased underwent a Gonadotrophin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) test (GnRH) The initiation of therapy is discussed with tertiary endocrinologist colleagues, but the treatment has been delivered locally. We have recently discussed with colleagues from pharmacy aspects related to service commissioning and the recognition of this specialist service.
Aim: We intended to evaluate the service our patients receive both from investigations and management of precocious puberty perspective. We consider the primary outcome the response to treatment and patient satisfaction.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of data from clinical records and investigations organised in the last year in our Day Unit.
Results: We have received many referrals as “suspected precocious puberty”, after clinical examination, only 25 required GnRH Test and 12 had the confirmed pattern of precocious puberty (Luteinising Hormone - LH predominance over Follicular Stimulation Hormone – FSH). We currently have 12 young ladies on Decapeptyl injections. The age range is 8 years to 11 years old. We currently have three 8 years old patients, three 9 years old and five 10 years old patients and one 11year old patient. We discuss the result of their height, bone age at diagnosis and duration of treatment.
Conclusion: We demonstrate a strong service that evaluates children with suspected precocious puberty and offers appropriate treatment closer to home. We are keen to be able to continue this service provision as there is a significant benefit for patients to have it delivered locally.
