Background: Wernicke Encephalopathy (WE) is an acute life-threatening neuropsychiatric disorder caused by vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency. Although commonly associated with alcohol abuse in adults, it can also arise from non-alcoholic causes. WE is rarer in children.
