Background: Hypophysitis is a rare inflammatory condition of the pituitary that can mimic a neoplastic lesion. Histopathology subtypes include lymphocytic, granulomatous, xanthomatous, plasmacytic or a mixed picture. Among these, xanthomatous hypophysitis (XH) is the least common with an unknown aetiology.
