Background: To construct the growth curves of body length and weight for Chinese patients from birth to 3 years with salt-wasting 21-hydroxylase deficiency (SW 21-OHD), changes in body mass index (BMI) will also be described, so as to explore the growth pattern of these special patients and guide the monitoring of early growth.

Methods: The body length and weight data of SW 21-OHD patients aged 0-3 years who visited in 4 hospitals across our country before December 2021 were collected. The LMS method was used to smooth the growth curves, values of percentile and Z-score curves were calculated and then generated growth curves.

Results: 248 patients were included, of which 128 (51.6%) cases were male and 120 (48.4%) cases were female. A total of 624 length and 711 weight values were obtained for male patients, while 633 length and 772 weight values for female. For male and female patients, their average birth length was all 50.00 cm, their average birth weights were 3.37 ± 0.32 kg and 3.32 ± 0.34 kg, respectively. The body length of both male and female patients was impaired mostly at 19-24 months old (-0.83 SDS and -0.96 SDS, respectively), their lowest weight was observed at 10-12 months (-0.74 SDS) and 19-24 months (-0.80 SDS), respectively. In addition, we found that the BMI of male patients was close to the overweight threshold at 36 months old. Finally, we successfully construct the growth curves of body length and weight for Chinese patients aged 0-3 years with SW 21-OHD.

Conclusion: The growth of length and weight of patients with SW 21-OHD has its particularity, and attention should be paid to weight control while pursuing normal growth of length. Our growth curve will facilitate the assessment of growth in the management of patients with SW 21-OHD.
