Background: The assessment of childhood obesity involves rational use of diagnostic tests in individuals with physiological causes while not missing pathologies. We have developed obesity interpreter, a mobile application that provides individualized guidance regarding the workup of children and adolescents.

Aim: To validate the diagnostic accuracy of mobile application in the evaluation of children and adolescents with obesity.

Methods: Retrospective records of 515 obese children and adolescents (318 boys, age 11.7 ± 3.17 years, BMI SDS 2.32 ± 0.6) were analyzed using the application. The application directed towards a specific diagnosis after the input of clinical parameters (age, height, weight, pubertal status, development, vision and dysmorphism),.

Results: The diagnostic guidance provided by the application was compared to clinical diagnosis of 515 children with obesity (475 nutritional, 34 endocrine, 6 genetic and syndromic). The application guidance was concordant with clinical diagnosis in all cases.

Conclusions: Mobile application obesity interpreter provide a point of care, simplistic, and evidence-based evaluation of childhood and adolescent obesity.
