Common cause of hypopituitarism is congenital, genetically determined abnormality called pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS). It is characterised by hypoplastic anterior pituitary gland with thin or absent infundibulum and ectopic posterior pituitary location in MRI examination.
