In Italy, treatment of children with CP is not centralized. We collected data of 117 patients (pts) (M/F 56/41) with CP diagnosed after 01/01/2000, followed-up in 14 centres of paediatric endocrinology belonging to the I.S.P.E.D. Five centres provided data on more than 10 pts (range 12-19), while the remaining on 1-9. 46 pts were diagnosed between 2000-2010 and 71 afterwards. Follow-up was 7.5±4.1 yrs.Results. Introduction: The diagnosis of GHD requires the coexistence of anamnestic, auxological and laboratory data. The latter are burdened by the poor accuracy and adverse effects of the stimulation tests. A recent european audit (Horm Res Paediatr 2019;92(3): 150-156) on GH diagnostic reported as preferred tests in Italy Insulin tolerance test (ITT), glucagon, clonidine, arginine and Arg-GHRH. We conducted a survey to explore which of them are most used in It...

Rojo Jaime Cruz , Lorenzo Lucia Garzon , del Pozo Jaime Sanchez , Gomez Ma Elena Gallego

Background: In the past years, new glucometers with integrated automated bolus calculator, are available in the market for patients whith type 1 diabetes (DM1) in multiple daily injections (MDI) therapy. The limited bibliography about the use of these meters in the pediatric population with DM1, suggests that it may have beneficial effects in terms of glycaemic control and improved quality of life. Objective and hypotheses: The use of a glucometer with an...

Objective: The balance between hypocortisolism and hyperandrogenism in patients with classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) treated with lifelong glucocorticoid (GC) is challenging. Glucocorticoid receptors are widely expressed in the brain; therefore it has been hypothesized that alterations in the exposure to glucocorticoids may affect cognitive ability in individuals with CAH. Only few studies have addressed this issue in children and results are scan...

Endocrinopathies in Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation (CDG): Short stature and hypergonadotropic hypogonadism are the main endocrinological manifestations in two unrelated cases of PMM2-CDG.

Del Medico Giulia , Procopio Elena , Ferri Lorenzo , Annibalini Giosuè , Morrone Amelia , Stagi Stefano , Barbieri Elena

Introduction: PMM2-CDG is the most common congenital disorder of glycosylation (CDG). Since glycoproteins are involved in every endocrine axis, PMM2-CDG patients have a high risk of developing endocrinopathies.Case report: We describe two 12 years-old female PMM2-CDG patients with severe short stature and no clinical sign of puberty. One patient showed low serum levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and IGF bind...

Identification of a Novel Heterozygous ACAN Mutation in a Patient with Non-Syndromic Short Stature

Partenope Cristina , Gallo Dario , Damia Chiara Maria , Adavastro Marta , Fioretti Lorenzo , Pitea Marco , Weber Giovanna , Pozzobon Gabriella

Aggrecan, encoded by ACAN, is a major proteoglycan component in the extracellular matrix of the growth plate. At least 25 pathological ACAN mutations have been identified in patients with highly variable phenotypes of syndromic or non-syndromic short stature. A 6-year-old boy was referred to our Centre for short stature (height 103.60 cm, −3.14 SDS) in familial short stature. Mid-Parental target height was 161.15 cm (−2.38 SDS); His father (height 167.3 cm) is from...

The patient was referred to our Centre for short stature. Weight and length at birth were within normal limits. In the neonatal period he showed jaundice and hypoglycemia. A reduced growth velocity was reported from the age of six months. At 15 months his length was 70 cm (−3.75 SDS), his weight 8.1 kg (−2.26 SDS). Parental target height was 167.6 cm (−1.38 SDS). He had normal psychomotor development. The examination showed macrocrania and nasal voice. Blood ...
