Background: Despite the metabolic syndrome in pediatrics is a well recognized entity, there is no unanimous consensus on exact value of MS to predict long-term cardiovascular risk. Hepatic Steatosis (HS) is another emerging condition associated to pediatric obesity. Objective and hypotheses: To evaluate the prevalence of MS in a large pediatric obese population, assess the relationship between MS and HS, and evaluating the possible role of HS in defining ...

Introduction: Previous studies showed that non-obese children and adults with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) have a low frequency of metabolic syndrome (MetS), while obese ones have a frequency similar to that of non-PWS obese. It is known that individuals born small for gestational age (SGA) have a greater predisposition to the development of MetS. Recent neonatal percentiles of subjects with PWS (Salvatoni et al, Am J Med Genet Part A, 2019) documented...

Introduction: Asprosin is a new discovered adipokine involved in the regulation of appetite, glucose, and energy homeostasis. The aim of our study was to evaluate asprosin serum levels in children and adults affected with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), and to compare with hyperphagia questionnaire (HFQ), anthropometric and metabolic parameters. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 118 PWS subjects (88 children, mean...

In Italy, treatment of children with CP is not centralized. We collected data of 117 patients (pts) (M/F 56/41) with CP diagnosed after 01/01/2000, followed-up in 14 centres of paediatric endocrinology belonging to the I.S.P.E.D. Five centres provided data on more than 10 pts (range 12-19), while the remaining on 1-9. 46 pts were diagnosed between 2000-2010 and 71 afterwards. Follow-up was 7.5±4.1 yrs.Results. Histology was adamanti...
